Wedding Photographers for LGBTQ+ Couples in New York and New Jersey

Your wedding photographer should make capturing the magic of your special day easy. You probably already have enough things to think about leading up to your wedding, and the last thing you want to worry about is whether your pictures are going to look as spectacular as you! When you’re in an LGBTQ+ relationship, though, finding a photographer that you can trust becomes a little bit more complicated. You want someone who can capture the intimacy of your special day and the authenticity of your relationship while making you feel safe and comfortable.

We’ve compiled a list of a few New Jersey and New York photographers that prioritize diversity and inclusivity and have experience making LGBTQ+ weddings and engagements look beautiful on paper:

Wedding Photographers for LGBTQ

Natalie + Lucie’s City Hall wedding

Adena of Studio A images is all about getting to know you and your partner.  Your pictures aren’t standard portraits, but unique depictions that reflect the personalities behind your relationship. She is based out of Hoboken, NJ, but serves clients in both the New Jersey and New York areas.

“I like to get to know you first, whether it be through your engagement session or dinner at your favorite restaurant so that I’m not a stranger on your wedding day. I would never treat a couple as just another set of names in fancy clothes,” writes Adena. “My business has always been firmly rooted in inclusivity and equality. So if you’re looking for an experienced New York/New Jersey photographer who will honor the uniqueness of you, your partnership, and your wedding—because let’s be real, unique is New York—then look no further than Studio A Images.”

His website even has a specific tab for LGBTQ+ clients that you can browse to see for yourself. He has offices in New York (Rockland County) and New Jersey (Essex and Bergen County) and also provides videography services.

“Rick Helman and his staff pride themselves on creating unique packages to fit the specific needs of each client, and every event. Our photo albums are all custom designed-we never use templates. If you have a special idea for a photo, Rick can help make that a reality,” reads his website. “Rick and his team work in a variety of styles, always capturing your special moment, from beautiful, perfectly posed portraits to great, candid photo-journalism shots.”

Diane is gay herself and has an entire page detailing her commitment to providing beautiful photos for same-sex couples. She is committed explicitly to capturing how unique you, your partner, and your wedding is. All of her bookings are done electronically.  She books up fast as she only does about 20 weddings per year. After you book your date, however, you will get to meet face-to-face and talk about exactly what kind of wedding you want her to capture. Her office is in Rhinebeck, New York, though she covers New York weddings.

“I am so pleased that a huge portion of my business comes from Gay and Lesbian couples.  Love is love. My straight couples love the photos of my gay couples and vice-versa! What they all see in the images is love, family and authenticity,” writes Diane. “The biggest thing is not to assume anything about the wedding day (but hey, I don’t think we should assume anything about anyone’s wedding day!)  My couples tend to be independent thinkers. Original, one of a kind weddings are my thing, gay or straight.”

Gruber Photographers

Founded by Terry Gruber about 25 years ago, Gruber has a variety of photographers.  You can choose from several to book for your wedding or engagement. They are based in New York’s Flatiron district, specialize in using photos to tell a story and designate a section of their website to their work with LGBTQ+ couples.

“Distinguished by a unique, cinematic approach and a storyteller’s eye for detail, we have always been inspired by one simple truth: life’s great moments are defined not only by their subjects but also by the effect they have on those who share them,” reads their website. “This passion for the power of photography to capture the honest emotion of our clients’ events is evident from your first meeting and every visit to our studio.
