March Birthstone: Aquamarine

History of March Birthstone: Aquamarine

The Aquamarine stone has an impressive background! The rock earns its name from the ocean-blue color, similar to the Mediterranean. Derived from Roman “Aqua,” meaning water of course, and “mare,” meaning sea, this pale blue beauty is unique. Romans believe this stone was special to Neptune, God of the Seas.

Aquamarine’s background with the sea accurately reflects the tranquility and serenity that comes with this stunning stone.

Additionally, a gift of the Aquamarine stone is a symbol of security and safety. This ties back to its Roman roots, and use by sailors for protection at sea for centuries. There is also a tradition that the Aquamarine stone reignites love in a tired marriage, so if you want to bring back that spark, this stone will make a wonderful anniversary gift for your partner!Ocean

March Birthstone: Aquamarine – What Kind of Stone is it?

Aquamarine is a part of the Beryl stone family, like emeralds, which is a mineral derived from large igneous rocks in the Earth’s crust. Aquamarine stones grow in six-sided crystals that can be up to a foot long. We’ll take one of those, please!

Stones in this family can be found varying from color, anywhere from clear to emerald, where they will be most expensive. The majority of these stones are flawless, which is much unlike others out there.

Interestingly enough, the stone has been used for centuries in the manufacturing of eyeglasses.
