Guide for Picking Perfect Wedding Rings

You’ve got the perfect engagement ring, the date is set, the dress is purchased, and you are checking things off your list one by one! So, it’s about time for one of the best parts of the wedding planning process, picking wedding rings together!  We’ve laid out our go-to guide for selecting the perfect wedding rings in time to say, “I do!”

Know Your Style (and lifestyle!)

First of all, remember, this is a symbol of your love, and it will be worn every day Think about the look you are going for to match the engagement ring. Do you want diamonds? How many? Gold, or platinum? Keep it simple and timeless, or something standout and uniquely you?

Most importantly, think about your daily lifestyle, even your career, and reflect on size and style in that aspect. Maybe smaller will be easier day-to-day, or perhaps something larger that you want to be eye-grabbing.

Either way, don’t panic! You have the time to pick exactly what you want. The only opinion that matters is your own.

Here are some examples of different wedding rings styles.  The styles range from classic, vintage, all the way to modern.

Plan Ahead

Some couples are comfortable with waiting a month before the big day to look for rings, but we would recommend a couple of-of months prior, and having them in-hand about a month before the wedding.  Are you looking for a custom engraving on the rings? These things take extra time, so be prepared.  Even more importantly, if you want custom created wedding rings, the process can take 6 to 8 weeks.  So, it’s very important to start early.

Similarly, we also recommend finding your ring early, even if you are not looking for custom creation or engraving.  This will allow you to browse sales, because that is a great way to go under budget on your perfect ring.  You can browse a large selection of rings here.

Set A Budget for your Wedding Rings

Knowing how much you plan to spend is crucial before you even start looking in-person. Therefore, it’s important to explore how much styles you like cost online. Keep in mind, custom rings and engravings add on to the cost! Usually, plain platinum or 14 karat gold rings cost around $500, in contrast to rings that feature diamonds, which are more expensive.  We have many gorgeous options fit for every budget.

We like to include our prices on our website, so brides and grooms can start matching their inspiration boards to our rings and know the exact cost, right from home.  Almost as important are knowing your financing options.  Finding ways to pay over time, at no cost to you is very important if budget is a constraint.  You can find information about financing and flexible payments here.

Mix it Up

Your partner likes gold, and you were wanting platinum? Don’t stress. It’s not crucial that the metals match! Most importantly, at the end of the day, what matters is you both love your rings that you will wear on a daily basis.

We have plenty of options for whatever color and style is your favorite.

Know Your Size

Another consideration is the finger size.  Therefore, we would recommend not basing your ring size from a post-workout or just-woke-up state! Your wedding rings will be with you through many size changes, so it’s best to go in calm and at a normal temperature to accurately size your ring finger.  Although you can use many tricks to size your finger, the most reliable is having your finger sized at a professional jewelry store.  If getting to a jewelry store is a problem, you can find ways to find your finger size online.  Keep in mind, these are probably not as accurate.  Therefore, we recommend trying a few different sizing methods to ensure accuracy.

Understand Quality

It’s important to know exactly what “platinum” and “14 karat” means when you are picking out rings. These show the quality and also how it will handle wear and tear.  Also, these are major factors in determining the budget.  As a result, understanding quality will drive your budget.  If you feel that having 14k gold is important due to its strength, this will impact the budget.

If you’re planning on having diamonds in your band, understand what type and quality score you want.  Again, another factor that will greatly impact your budget is the diamond quality if you choose to have them in your wedding ring.  These truly reflect the quality of the diamond in your band!

Clean Before the Big Day!

Finally, there will be endless photos of your rings on the day of your wedding. For that reason, we’d highly recommend getting both your engagement and wedding rings one final professional cleaning and shine so they really pop!

However, if you’re really determined to do it at home, we recommend you soak the rings in warm sudsy water, and lightly scrub with a toothbrush if there are place settings. Not too hard, though! If it’s a plain band, a nice cloth should help polish it.
